As social distancing restrictions rolled out across the US, Emmaus’ current student body was sent home and the college adopted an online teaching program. As a result, the college had to refund approximately $250,000 in room & board costs to students. Emmaus was already struggling with a potential shortfall of $700,000 for the year before the onslaught of the virus.
